New comic coming this October: Adversary

With the O Human Star rerun complete, I wanted to officially announce the big project I’ve been working on for most of this year so far, and where/when you’ll be able to read it.

This October I am participating in the ShortBox Comics Fair, an online event run by Zainab Akhtar of ShortBox, which serves as an annual showcase of digital comics that have never been released before. The work I’m debuting for the fair is Adversary, a graphic novella that’s probably the biggest departure in genre and tone from works you’ve seen from me recently.

In some respects, it has a lot in common with OHS, which centered around a May/December relationship and took place in Minneapolis 2021. Adversary also takes place in Minneapolis 2021… our 2021. Curtis is newly out, single, and motivated to take his life in a different direction. Anton is a mysterious young man who recognizes Curtis from their pre-pandemic lives and reacquaints himself in a way Curtis isn’t entirely prepared for. It’s for mature readers, but it’s some of the most ambitious storytelling I’ve ever attempted, so I hope you’ll check it out.

Adversary will be sold through the ShortBox Comics Fair from October 1-31 2022 (payments will go to me, but that will be its exclusive debut), and after that I will make it available to patrons and sell the digital version at my itch.io store. I also secured some funds for a physical print run that I hope to debut at the end of the year, but in the meantime I still have to finish it! You can see WIPs in my monthly Patreon sketchbooks going back to last October, and going forward as well.
